A Tribute to Cory Monteith

JwJjG8fThe first time, I got the news was from my friend’s status on Blackberry Messenger. My first thought, it was a hoax. So I googled his name to find proof that it was just a hoax. But I was very shocked when I found out all the headlines about his untimely death.

I first knew him when I watched Glee back in 2009. He was one of the few lead actors. Back then, Glee was still good.  Most of the comments that I read was “he seemed like a nice person” or something similar. Usually, people only say the good thing when someone dies. However, I have yet to read a bad article about him. So he was always good to people all this time.

Cory Monteith had struggled with addiction since he was teenager and he was open about it. He spoke about stealing from family members and spiraling downward so far that in his late teens his family staged an intervention. He was 19 and that was the first time he went to rehab.

I find it truly inspiring when he volunteered to go to rehab again for his addiction in April this year, although he had to miss filming the last 2 episodes of season 4. A month later he came out looking fine. In his last interview, dated June 8, He stated that he was happy to be on the show and “I’m really, really happy to be coming back [filming season 5]. It’s really good.” At the end of the interview, it was said that Monteith himself said that he committed to getting sober and “he would say this was his last chance”.
